Tastes of Turkey – Private Tour

Learn all about Turkey's rich food culture and its cuisine as you enjoy everything from grand dishes cooked in the Ottoman style, to humble but tasty street food, to mouth-watering desserts.

Your tour will start in Istanbul where you will dine in the style of the sultans at a restaurant specialising in Ottoman cuisine.  We will also participate in a cooking class and experience the joy that is a night at a traditional meyhane before we head off to Cappadocia in Turkey’s Central Anatolia region, famous for its stark, lunar-like landscape.  Here, the food features a lot more stew type dishes, a reflection of the cooler weather.  We then make our way across to Pamukkale, and then Kusadasi, on the Aegean coast.  This region features beautiful beaches, charming villages, olive and fruit groves, forests and more.  Here, the cuisine is very different, and features lots of olive oil and seafood and green vegetables.

As you travel around you will also have the opportunity to sample different types of Turkish wineWine has been produced in Turkey since around 6500BC when the Hitites were keen wine growers, the Phrygians were also fans of wine, and are even credited with spreading wine culture from Turkey to Greece.  While periods of prohibition saw the industry wane throughout different periods of history, this was never for long because the taxes collected through wine sales was an important part of the Ottoman economy. Today, the wine industry in Turkey is steadily growing and many experts are recommending that wine lovers “watch this space” as the industry goes from strength to strength.
